How much candy corn is produced yearly?
Candy corn is a fall tradition. Each year, about 9 billion pieces of candy corn are produced, equaling about 35 million pounds – and loads of calories and sugar.
Generally, candy corn is made of sugar, corn syrup, carnauba wax, artificial coloring and binders. According to Brach’s, the ingredients in their candy corn are sugar, corn syrup, confectioner's glaze (shellac), salt, cocoa powder, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, gelatin, dextrose, honey, artificial flavor, sesame oil, yellow 6, yellow 5, red 3, soy lecithin, blue 1 and red 40.
The original name for this treat was chicken feed.
Brach’s has come out with numerous flavors of candy corn, including a Thanksgiving Feast in a bag with flavors such as roasted turkey, dressing, glazed carrots, cranberry sauce and even green beans.
There’s even a bag of Tailgate Candy Corn, with flavors like hot dog, hamburger, vanilla ice cream, popcorn and fruit punch.
I haven’t tried these new flavors – and don’t plan to do so.
